You will be placed on a team, with a designated team captain. Each week, your team will face an opposing team and play several 45-minute doubles matches. The team captains will form lineups and slot you based on your availability and preferred time slot. Doubles matches could be mixed, men’s or women’s, depending on player availability, and we encourage teams to rotate lineups so that you get to play with different teammates over the course of the season. On average, each person will get to play one match per week, but there may be weeks when multiple teammates are out and you’ll get to play twice. In some rare cases, a team may need to designate an alternate player that week if more players are available than match slots. There are plenty of other tennis activities, games, drills, and exhibition matches that you can participate in on the side courts while you are not playing in an official match.

That’s not a problem. Teams are designed to be flexible, so that several players may be out and the available players could multiple matches to cover for you and represent the team the weeks you are out. Please make sure to inform your teammates if/when you are expecting to miss a week so that the team captain can form the lineups accordingly.

Certainly! When you register, you will be asked whether you have any teammate requests. We will do our best to honor all teammate requests. If a requested team’s average tennis level is too high that it might cause the matches to be uneven, we may have to split up a team to keep things balanced and fun.

• Hopdoddy Burger Bar @ Triangle (Mon-Thurs for the UT Whitaker leagues) and Aviator Pizza on Parmer (for our McNeil leagues) are our designated partner post-tennis restaurant/bars. Typically, between 20-30 players head on over to happy hour following tennis. Aviator and Hopdoddy both offer a 10% discount to our players who come together after tennis while wearing their league shirts.

There will be an end-of-season party for players across all leagues at a local restaurant/bar. Prizes for winning team players and giveaways for all team captains will be awarded then. Come enjoy light snacks, drinks, and good company on us!

Fall leagues will have a more lavish end-of-year party (most likely at a local brewery or distillery) that will feature an open bar, food, prizes, and raffle giveaways from local organizations! Some fall leagues will have a more affordable tennis-only option to does not include a ticket to the party.

Austin Social Tennis is completely volunteer-run, so it cannot function without the help of its devoted players. Its growth is dependent on players sharing the league through word-of-mouth. If you enjoy the league, please help spread the word and recruit your friends and coworkers to come out on the courts for our free games night and join the tennis movement!

If you would like to get more involved, we are periodically looking for league coordinators to run the show. All materials and supplies will be provided for you, and a league coordinator role comes with some pretty sweet perks! It’s also is a great way to demonstrate community + leadership experience for your resume.
